TLDR: Replaced my horn- realized after trying to 'beep beep' when passing a friend's house.
Horns are: 96611-J5500 and 96621-J5500
Realized my horn wasn't working when I tried beeping at a friend when passing his house. No idea how long they stopped working because I hardly ever use it or need to.
Did the most logical thing, checked the fuse, it looked good, still replaced with a spare just to see if it was blown but I couldn't 'see' it, still didn't work. I also scanned it with a bi-directional scanner and tested the horn - the test passed but there was no sound so I knew for sure the horns were shot.
Checked online and realized the 2022+ models (facelift/refresh) has an apparent horn problem and their failures are quite common. It also said that there's 2 horns for redundancy so if one fails, the other will still work so you can still signal. Neither worked. I wasn't going to pull off the bumper and replace the wrong one so I got both.
I know they have both a high and low pitch but I didn't know if both were bad or they worked in series (so if one fails, both stop working - that'd be stupid but IDK). Anyways, bought both from a local Kia dealer and shipped to my door it costed $150.66 CAD. This was cheaper than the options I saw on eBay and pretty much everywhere else for both genuine horns.
MASSIVE shoutout to TWN 2RBO for his bumper removal video as this made my life so much easier. https://youtu.be/as-MQv04tps
Took me maybe 10mins tops to disconnect the battery, remove all the clips and bolts, unplug the harness and get the bumper off.
Was pretty easy to remove the old ones, replace them with the new and I can now 'beep beep' again.
Thought I might share this with anyone that experiences this in future. Don't fork up a ton of money to the dealer. This is a pretty easy DIY job.
If you got this far, hope it helps someone, thanks for reading and pce.
