Hi. I'm new to learning Japanese and am going the self taught route. I'm currently learning the hiragana script and I noticed something that's kinda confusing me. I'm learning from a book that got off of Amazon while using some other sources for help ( mainly printouts and the app Renshuu) and in some sources there are some hiragana that are written with certain flourishes and in other sources it's missing. I included pictures of ki from both my book and a printout for example. In the book there's this uptick on the bottom of the third stroke while in the printout the third stroke is just a straight line.
So my question is: are these little flourishes important to write or are they just a stylistic choice? Any help is very much appreciated.
