My hot flashes came back. Would heat intolerance require an allowance under ADA? (USA)
Let me edit this. I am asking about my home. I'm an artist and my studio is at home, but our landlords didn't rent me a workspace, they rented me a home. I am on Prempro and have been for over a year. My dose is 0.45 (there is more to the dose, but no one asks for more than the first number).
The hot flashes came back with a vengeance yesterday; they feel even worse than before. What have you found that helps? I think I can talk my doctor into prescribing whatever might work.
2023 through 2025 was one looong heat flash. I had to turn our AC down to 65, even in the winter. Along with the 24/7 one, I also had "traditional" hot flashes. I kept half a dozen frozen gel packs in rotation, just slipping them down the back of my shirt or holding one against the back of my neck. I went to all cotton or bamboo tops, got rid of anything with long sleeves. Our sheets are bamboo and I sleep on a gel/memory foam pillow that actually provides some relief.
Last July, we moved to a house with terrible air conditioning. The thermostat looks like it's supposed to be environmentally friendly but all it is is nearly useless. It's been 72 in my house when it's 60 outside. One day we came home to 82 degrees.
The heat is exacerbating my asthma and increasing breakthrough attacks. It's seems to be causing me to have an increased number of migraines, and definitely making sleep difficult. It's also stressful and causes me anxiety, making it harder to function. (I have ADHD, depression, and an anxiety disorder.) Does anyone know if not being able to handle heat for health reasons and needing a cool environment are disabilities that have to be accommodated? I'm in the US.
