Had an amazing trip starting last Wednesday. I will preface this by saying that I saw Ragtime, Two Strangers, Chess, and Heathers last November which is why I didn’t see them for this trip. I was able to see 11 shows and did more plays than I normally do, simply because there aren’t a lot of newly released musicals this season.
I am pretty easy to please and really enjoyed all the shows.
Favorites :
Schmigadoon - such an amazing adaptation from the TV show. I thought everyone was perfect for their roles. Had a smile on my face from start to finish. Sara Chase and Alex Brightman was fantastic in the lead roles.
Death Of A Salesman- first time seeing any production of this show and it completely blew me away. All the acting was so powerful. This was my first time seeing Nathan Lane and I understand what all the fuse is about. Also Christopher Abbott was amazing.
Becky Shaw- this was a riot, I was laughing non stop as the humor was right up my alley. Alden Ehrenreich was the highlight for me. All the characters had flaws and for me that’s what made it so great!
The Lost Boys - I loved the music and the sets. It truly was spectacle to see. The first act was pretty much perfect. I mention thr 1st act bc my only gripe was the vampire song in act 2 (with all the Dracula’s) seemed very out of place compared to the first act. Also I felt the last fight was too quick.
Every Brilliant Thing- such a moving show. Daniel Radcliffe is an amazing talent and love the audience participation.
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee- such a fun and unique show. You can definitely tell the cast is having a blast with their characters.
Titanique- I saw the off broadway a few years ago and I definitely feel the made changes, I just can’t remember what, haha. Another show where you can tell they are having fun up there. Jim Parsons as Ruth was my favorite part. All the singing was fantastic.
Giant- the standout for me in this was Anya Cash. I have seen her in comedy stuff and she blew me away. Her speech at the end of act 1 was astonishing. This was a very powerful play that makes your jaw drop knowing it’s true
Dog Day Afternoon - I really enjoyed this and actually appreciated the comedy aspects of it. Ready the true story, they weren’t very smart with their plan. Jon Bernthal was fantastic and I think he has been overlooked this season
Cats: The Jellicle Ball- such a fun show. I had no idea what ballroom was and not a fan of the original Cats. However this was a fun take and really fun show.
Amaze- saw this one Sunday morning and it was only half full. However it was one of the best magic shows I have seen. He’s a great entertainer and the tricks were great.
All in all I really did love all the shows and can’t wait to go back in the fall!
