The only temple in Hampi that was left untouched by the Deccan Sultanates while they were destroying the city.
While the exact reason the Muslim sultanates left this temple standing is unknown, a likely theory is that the gateway structure features a carved wild boar. Because boars are considered haram (forbidden) in Islam, the invaders may have avoided touching the building altogether.
