Delay pedals and BPM shifts between songs
Hey all. Old Guy here, very recently started playing EG2/EG1/bass on the worship team at church. Previous playing experience was in the very early '00s and the P&W guitar landscape was much simpler. I'm thrilled about all the new stuff, just learning to manage it live.
My question is how is everyone managing delay tempos live when using traditional pedalboards?
I'm using a Strymon Timeline for delay, and I know I could make new presets for every single song, but my desire is to initially keep it simple with just a few presets - eigth, a couple dotted with options, and a dual preset that gives me both. My plan has been to just tap the new tempo into my Timeline when the click starts for each new song, and then roll. In practice, that's been less than awesome, especially if I'm supposed to be a prominent part of the intro. While I'm taking four beats to tap the new click in, the rest of the band starts, more often than not.
How is everyone approaching this issue? I know I could make individual presets for each song, and maybe that's the right answer, but it's not my preference. I could get a full-on midi controller to run tempo (I'm told the HX Stomp can do this) or as a variation, I could get something like the Walrus Audio Canvas Clock, and just build a weekly set list of tempos into that.
Are there other options I'm missing? I'm not particularly price sensitive, though I'm deliberately trying to keep things simpler for now, and I'd not prefer to chuck my whole pedalboard in favor of a QC or a Helix Floor.
Currently leaning Canvas clock+midi cables, but would love any advice or input.
