I know asscher and emerald cuts do not have the same sparkle as other cuts. But would a moissanite offer more sparkle than diamond in these step cuts?

I'm considering an Asscher cut but hesitate as the diamond I saw were a good grade but not really sparkly. But I was told moissanite may be more colorful than a diamond.

So I'm deciding between Asscher or Cushion cut. I was told that an Asscher appears smaller than a cushion cut at the same and carat size. But if I get a diamond of a specific dimension 8mm x 8mm rather than focus on carat wouldn't the two cuts appear similar in size looking at them from the top?
