Hello, I am a very casual hobby writer.

I have no ambition to have any of my work published but I have plenty on stories going around in my head that I want to explore and develop for the simple joy of it all.

About a year ago I committed to writing one of these stories in its entirety, using just my IPad and a word document. I was very consistent for about 3 months and got about 18,000 words down. Then things dropped off and I couldn't pick it up again.

However, today I have decided to write the story again with a genre change and most importantly write with just a notebook and pen.

I have always found the physical act of writing more enjoyable and easier for my thoughts to flow.

Writing with a keyboard and looking at a screen had always felt very detached and i would lose focus much easier.

I'm focusing less on editing my own work because there's such little room to make edits and I can focus of getting my ideas out of my head and onto paper allowing room for new ideas to crop up to continue said story.

More surprisingly, I'm finding a lot of joy in it. It feels like I'm back to being a child on the train when my mum used to give me an A4 pad an a biro to keep myself entertained. A time when I'd come up with stories of a mermaid kingdom, a vampire high school, or a number of self inserts of whatever tv show/movie/book i was reading at the time.

I'm curious so see how many prefer pen and paper, and how many prefer digital. And all the personal reasons one way or the other.
