You Ever Just Mess Up an Audition So Badly You Have to Laugh?

Auditioned for Come From Away today. I sang a cut of 38 planes reprise (we had to pick from selected cuts) I practiced and was extremely confident in my cut. Then the piano starts and for some UNKNOWN REASON I randomly opted up??? And then was wildly flat the whole time because I was in such shock that I was singing an octave up for absolutely no reason 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦. My monologues went fine but man that was probably the worst singing audition I've ever done 🤣🤣🤣 It took everything in my power to keep a straight face until I walked out and then just started laughing.

It was my first audition with this group and I LOVE this group (I've done some workshops with them) so that was the biggest bummer that it was just an awful first impression haha.

Oh well. Onto the next one haha. Nerves do the craziest things.

Hey all! I do characterization studies for fun and to help learn more about musical theatre. I have done 25-30 different songs and would love your suggestions as to what to do next!

Guidelines for what I need:

- Solo or Duet. Ensemble backing is fine but should have a principal one or two singers.for example in Les Mis, Master of the House is great but One Day More is not haha.

- MUST have at least two different actors in the role (for solos. Four for duets), with readily available recordings for me to watch or listen to. Movie adaptations work, proshots are great, soundtracks work, slime tutorials also work! As long as I can find at least two different versions of the song then I can use it!

- The versions should ideally be professional. Bway/off, West end, touring, and regional are all fine! Would prefer to stay away from community theatre unless it is a VERY well done show. So if there's only recordings of the OBC and a community theatre/school production, probably not.

- Any genre, age, era, etc is good!

- Popular or niche! I want it all! I'm not going to list everything I've already done to save space but just bc it's popular don't assume I've done it. I will say if it's from Falsettos, Sweeney Todd, Legally Blonde, Little Shop, Hairspray, or Heathers, I've probably done it bc I've been working through the whole soundtrack on those guys haha.

Thank you guys!!

Of course everyone knows that basically every group is doing Come From Away this year, and I understand to an extent why! Great show that just became available and is very popular with audiences.

But I've noticed a trend beyond just CFA. It seems like every year, at least a couple groups around me do the same show(s). A Chorus Line and Finding Neverland this year, for example. Is there a reason this happens, or is it just luck/ coincidence? There's just SO MANY amazing shows and it just seems odd that the same shows keep getting done in the same year with so many choices. Do they get deals? Are shows discounted? Sorry if this is a stupid question, it was a shower thought I couldn't shake haha!

I haven't drawn a human portrait in probably 2 years so I decided while watching Falsettos (again) I would do a study of Marvin. Started it and ended it with the play, and my only reference was when Marvin would be on screen. No pausing the video, just quick snippets. It's definitely not perfect but I'm proud of it!

Done on Photoshop with one brush on one layer, with 3 colors and the background.
