Half Marathon after broken ankle
Hi all, I need some advice from people who might've been in a similar situation.
I broke my ankle (lateral malleolus of the fibula) on 19th March, about 7 weeks ago, after rolling my ankle during a run. It wasn't displaced so I didn't require any surgery or a cast, but it was completely separated.
I spent the first 3/4 weeks using crutches to get around and did everything I could to help speed up recovery; raised foot, cold compresses, supplements, daily exercises, etc. Now, at 7 weeks and 2 days, I'm at the stage where I can run again but much slower and much shorter distances. Whereas I could previously achieve 10-15km fairly easily, I'm now hitting 5km and feeling sore/stiff around the foot.
I'm signed up to the Plymouth Half Marathon next Sunday, 17th May. I'm wondering if I should keep pushing to try to enter it or if I should continue to build up slowly and give it a miss. Realistically, I only have one training session left between now and the race.
How long did it take you to return to long distances after a similar injury? Has anybody run a HM 8 weeks (or less?) after breaking their ankle?
Thanks!
EDIT: You guys are the best. Thanks so much for all your comments. Needless to say, you've all completely put me off. I'll put my feet up instead. All the best, everyone!
