Big ups to KernOptic for the mount. A few flaws with it, but much better than trying to find an original. The fact that someone went out of their way to make this for the love of the game says a lot.
The machine work is good, no tool marks or visible gouges. Plating is excellent as well.
The mount isn’t compatible with most M5x0.8 flat head screws as they all have a 10mm head, and the holes for the screws are just under 10mm. I had to modify the head of the screws I could find locally to fit. I found some Torx head on McMaster Carr with a 9.3mm head that should work without modification. I’d recommend 10mm length of thread if you are sourcing your own.
McMaster # 92703A161 should do the trick without modification. What you do with the extra 97 screws that come with that is up to you.
The included thumbscrew was too tight out of the box. I ran another 1/4-28 bolt through the threads in the mount a few times, and after most of the plating was removed the thumbscrew worked well. I didn’t take time to measure the mount or the thumbscrew to see which was out of spec, but I suspect the drill used for the threads on the mount was slightly undersized. Kern is aware of the issue and sending replacement thumbscrews.
Hopefully this post helps you out of you are looking to buy one of these mounts. Even with the small issues 10/10 would buy again.
