Absolute has brought in a ton of new readers, so I just wanted to lend some advice and I’ll keep it quick…
I’ve been buying comics since ‘95 (I was 10) and around that time I had maybe four long boxes. Fast forward to when I could afford comics regularly, I made a lot of rookie mistakes. I bought every single Marvel Fear Itself comic because it was interesting at the time. I had to have everything! 1/4 of it was okay, and I probably missed out on a ton of cool books because the “completionist” in me didn’t care.
Anyways, Absolute has a ton of cool covers, but the story is only good as long as regular readers continue enjoying the series. My advice (along with the other old fuckers I’m repeating): don’t get burned out on the variant covers that cost way too much. Read the story that made them popular.
Lastly, buy what you like (and can afford). Most of us can’t afford every cover, and you don’t have to buy every cover. That itch you’re feeling will run its course. And for some of these variant prices (*cough* Quintana *cough*) you can enjoy the story for years to come without hurting your back pocket (not prison wallet) and getting burned out.
