Hello, as I said in the title I am AMAB, 31, 5’4, 130 lbs, I switched from smoking to vaping a little over a month ago but had been smoking for 7 years before that. I don’t drink or use any substances. I’m in Alberta, Canada and it’s really hard to find a family physician accepting new patients right now. I’m still actively searching for one. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with something similar to this. I have a colourful medical background that I’ll add below. I apologize for the novel in advance.
Symptom:
Over the last year and 2 months I have noticed my right cheek slowly become more swollen than my left cheek. It’s become much more noticeable in the last 2-3 months. At first I didn’t recognize it until I started looking at my selfies and noticed the asymmetry compared to my older selfies. It’s gotten to the point where people have been asking why my mouth is swollen or if I just had dental work done, both in person and comments on photos. There is no pain or discomfort and I can chew, talk and swallow fine. It’s not tender or firm. It feels like regular flesh when I push on it.
What I’ve tried:
- I have tried anti-inflammatories like Advil to see if the swelling goes down and it’s never worked.
- I’ve been on a couple different types of antibiotics due to infection from other dental issues on the other side of my mouth around 6 months ago which didn’t seem to affect the growth at all.
- Icing it doesn’t bring down swelling
Truthfully that’s all I’ve really tried because I have been without a family doctor for a year and a half since moving to a new city. It’s impossible to find a family physician in Alberta right now. Some people look for 2-3 years before finding one who accepts new patients so I have no idea when I’ll actually be able to see a family doctor.
I know that this issue might seem minute, and the swelling might not look very intense, but it’s quite noticeable to me and people who know me well. I’ve become insecure about it and I find myself shocked every time I take a rare selfie, realizing that’s what my face looks like now. It’s such a strange feeling.
If you need more information or I missed anything just let me know. Thanks!
