Swords as re-enlistment/retention incentives (thought experiment)

I've always thought if we actually issued NCO swords it would probably do more than some shitty backpack or even (in some instances) a bonus. Thoughts?

ETA: No doubt you guys are all galaxy brain types who want the money. But tell me there aren't some joes who would get focused on getting something shiny even if costs less than a cash bonus...

Someone much more senior to me clearly has an eating disorder. She just had a death in the family and I feel like no one is paying attention because she's up there. Just as a human I hate to watch this happen; she seems like a decent leader.
