Trying to fix my chronic shifting problems. Fix mech or remove hanger extension?
Video shows my loose mech. It moves clockwise/counterclockwise as well as to/from the frame. I likely bought the bike misassembled years ago because mechanics have noted it’s stripped (I believe they’re referring to the hex screw).
Additionally, I had the cassette swapped from 11-34t to 11-40t a year after buying, requiring a hanger extension.
My problem now is that shifting has always been off, but it’s annoying enough to fix it now. I’ve had bike tuned, and it shifts fine on the stand, but it never shifts properly in the real-world. I’ve had both the loose mech as well as the hanger extension cited as reasons for this, and I’m trying to get a consensus on if it is one or both as well as gneral advice for a fix.
