Is there any way to make the mirror modifier not mess with the objects rotation?

I just finished modeling this FNaF endoskeleton, but now I am trying to delete one of the arms to make a withered version. I started by applying all the mirror modifiers, but I just realized that doing so messes up the mirrored object's rotation, if the object was not aligned to any specific axis. Is there any way to avoid having this happen or a way to fix it?

How can I lower a Bézier curve's vertex count without having to go one by one manually disolving edges?

The curves in the image alone take up 24380 vertices, and there are a bunch more in the model
