I recently was switched from Stelara, which I had been on for 6+ years and in complete remission, to Ustekinumab-ttwe because my insurance company would no longer pay for Stelara.
Since starting the drug I have had terrible mid- to lower back pain and literally feel like I have been hit by a bus. I work 8 hours with a heating pad on my back and bought a massage pad to try to help with the pain. I have seen the chiropractor who told me my muscles are in a spasm. I live in Florida and have even found myself driving with the heated seats to try and find relief. I have had to cancel plans due to the pain and sometimes have to grab hold of the sheets or nightstand to hoist myself out of bed (I’m 32).
I recently heard a story of a coworker who had serious side effects to a biosimilar for Crohns and I remembered my pain started right around when I switched to the new drug. Has anyone else dealt with this? I feel crazy but I have no other explanation as to the pain that I’ve never had previously.
I reached out to my doctor about it but he didn’t seem to take it very seriously and literally just said “I’ve never heard of that happening to anyone”. I am hoping he can petition for me to go back on Stelara but who knows with big insurance.
