Long time no post! I’ve been trying to start my own little home studio to start a local themed photoshoot business for almost a year now. I’ve been practicing different lighting and backdrop setups and whatnot with my children.

First photo (newborn theme) was taken with a homemade softbox, reflector and a 700w lightbulb I bought from ACE hardware. It was pentagon shaped and was so so ghetto but got the job done (kinda). The photos of my oldest didn’t fair so well. I don’t remember what lens I used..

Second photo (Christmas theme) was taken with one Neewer continuous light, reflector, and the Xmas lights, which did most of the heavy lifting in the end. Hated this shoot really, timing the xmas lights so they were actually on in the pic and getting good pictures of two squirmy kids sucked but I ended up managing. This is where I realized I might be into this whole portrait thing and started looking to make change. These were taken with the Nikon Z 105 I believe.

Third photo (valentines theme) I actually bought a godox v1 with a softbox. I used my reflector and one of the neewer continuous lights to light the background. I actually had a couple parents I met through story time at our local library come over for dinner and a mini shoot in my kitchen. It was a nightmare, but so much fun. I got some really good ones during that shoot, and managed to make a couple parents happy as well. Taken with the 50mm 1.8s

Fourth photo (Easter theme) I’m starting to get into my groove I think. This shoot was lit with just the fairy lights, Godox v1, and a reflector. No more continuous lights. No notes on this one, composition needs work but I really liked the lighting. Taken with the 50 1.8s.

And that’s all I have so far. All of them taken on a Z6II and I also recently bought an AD 200 Pro II (possibly overkill, we will see) with an umbrella to pair with my V1 and am going to set up a shoot this weekend as a spring/mother days theme using the AD200 as my key and the godox for the background/fill. I’m going to apply some of the techniques I learned from some of the Adoramo tutorials (thank you Gavin) and see what I come up with. The goal is be doing paid shoots by Christmas time. Wish me luck, advice and feedback are encouraged!
