Not noticing any changes after modifying the modules - is there some kind of a cache?

Beginner here. I have been trying to modify my Ford Tourneo Connect Grand modules. Mainly BCMii and APIM. I have succesfully changed the modules, also in AS BUILT mode, following the instructions to turn the ignition off and on again.

However, I never notice any real change after rewriting the registries. Now I am starting to suspect, if I am missing some key piece of information in applying the changes. Do I need to do something else before the changes apply? Is there some kind of a cache?

What would be a safe modification to do to test this?

Dear all,

FORScan beginner here.

I started using FORScan yesterday.

Objective:
Prevent parking and rear lights from turning on when doors are opened (police/dark/silent mode). I use my car as a camper, so this is a very undesirable feature.

Car: Ford Tourneo Connect Grand, TDi 1.5, EU, 2016
Cable: Vgate vLinker FS OBD2 USB Adapter

Current status

Last night I installed FORScan on my Windows PC and successfully connected to the car. After some initial experimentation, I was able to change values in both the human-readable and AS BUILT modes. I logged the changes I made until I figured out how to create proper backups.

I followed several guides to locate the Approach Light and Police Mode settings:

  • I found Approach Light under BCMii, and it was already disabled by default.
  • I located its address (726-01-08) and experimented with different values (against advice), but saw no change in light behavior.
  • I was not able to find Police Mode, Silent Mode, or anything similar.

After several hours without results, I also checked BCMii (main), carefully following instructions regarding the bootloader, but still found nothing relevant.

The absence of Police Mode makes me suspect that my BCM firmware might be outdated, as mentioned in other forum discussions.

Multiple questions, Ford Tourneo Connect 2016 (EU): Police/dark mode challenge, error codes, registration to the FORScan forum

Questions

1: Does anyone have experience with this specific car? Information online seems quite limited.

2: Is it reasonable to assume the BCM firmware might be outdated? If so, is updating it something I can realistically do myself (I have a technical background), or is it better handled by a workshop?

I also checked the PDM, as I understand the setting might be located there as well. However, only AS BUILT view was available, and I couldn’t identify any relevant keys, so I left it unchanged.

Questions

3: Does anyone have references or information about PDM keys (addresses starting with 741) that might apply to this Tourneo?

4: Another possible approach would be to manipulate the rear door sensors. Is this something that can be configured via PDM?

DTC results after modifications

After making changes, I ran a DTC scan and got the following:

APIM - Code: B1215 - External Memory Card
Status (-2A):
DTC Present at Time of Request
Malfunction Indicator Lamp is OFF for this DTC
Module: Accessory Protocol Interface Module

IPC: U0558 - Invalid Data Received From Front Controls/Display Interface Module

Status (-08):
Previously Set DTC - Not Present at Time of Request
Malfunction Indicator Lamp is OFF for this DTC

Module: Instrument Panel Control Module

The first one seems harmless if it is just related to the memory card. The second one caught my attention more. I did make changes in APIM, but as far as I know, I did not change anything in IPC.

Question

5: Does anyone know what these codes mean, and whether this is something to worry about?

FORScan forum registration issue

I also tried to register on the FORScan forum but was unable to. I received an error saying something is wrong with the form, and it mentions an invitation code—even though that field does not appear to be mandatory.

Questions

6: Is it currently possible to register on the FORScan forum?

Many thanks in advance for any help. I’ve done quite a bit of reading, but the information is very scattered. If I’ve missed any key resources, I’d really appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
