I go back to the Atellan Farces in Ancient Italy and follow history all the way up to the opening of Second City Chicago. I heavily source Sam Wasson’s book “Improv Nation: How We Made a Great American Art” so I highly suggest reading that too, if you want to know more about the history of improv.
