stimulant class
how do you know when the stimulant is right for you, i guess more specifically between amphetamine and methylphenidate. i always hear about some people’s brain are better fit for amphetamine stimulants and some for methylphenidate. but what exactly does this feel like?
for reference, i was started on non stimulant with no difference, but then switched to adderall ir for my first stimulant at 5mg. it was a trial dose and by the next weeks follow up we upped to 10mg and mixed in 10s and 5s to trial 15mg and then combined 10s to make 20mg. i’m not sure if because at 5mg it wasn’t much of a dosage to notice, but when i did 20mg on the 10s, it felt like absolutely nothing but in comparison to 15mg using 3 5mgs, i felt a slight calmness though it was not for long, perhaps because of my fast metabolism. anyways, that’s to say that i did some research on my adderall ir manufacturer for 10mg and seen a lot of people felt the same about the pilling doing basically nothing or feeling like a sugar pill/placebo pill. so we switched to methylphenidate.
i’m now on focalin ir for methylphenidate and this time after getting to 15mg focalin, unlike adderall i now actually feel side effects and there was a few days of instances where i feel like i maybe might have actually been more locked in/focused when i put my mind to it, but wasn’t as calm i believe in comparison to when i took 3 5mgs of adderall. after a few hours though i definitely do feel my appetite go away and my anxiety goes through the roof.
this is all to say, im not sure what it could be, my psychiatrist felt that at 15/20mg, if i wasn’t feeling anything then it might’ve been just been a class mismatch and thats why she put me on methylphenidate, but i do feel like it could’ve been a manufacturer issue on the 10mgs and thats why i felt nothing in comparison to when i took 5mg from a different manufacturer though even then i dont think it was a high enough dosage (15) to see a real real difference. so my question is, how do you know when a stimulant class is the right one, what do you notice? side effects, adhd relief, etc. i do want to ask if i can retry adderall at 30mg or 20mg but obviously in the singular pill this time and hope for a different manufacturer. though i guess i cant specifically say its a fact but ive heard it being a valid complaint for a lot of people regarding manufacturer.
