Background

I'm a mid-30s single guy. I don't like musicals. Heard about Kpop Demon Hunters last summer/fall when it was really blowing up, but didn't really get the hype at the time. I figured I wasn't the target audience. And frankly I'm probably not the target audience, let's be real.

But... I heard a song on the radio the other day and the singer caught my ear. I was like "who is that? She has an amazing voice". The lyrics were about something "Golden". So this past Friday, I looked up the song...

Since Friday, I've been going down the rabbit hole listening to EJAE interviews and even watched the K-Pop Demon Hunters movie... twice! It's a total "the boys can't know I fuck w/this" situation, haha. Like a lot of you, I'm just really captivated and inspired by EJAE's life story. She seems like a good, thoughtful person.

Then, this morning, I listened to In Another World for the first time... I didn't think it would top anything she wrote for K-Pop Demon Hunters honestly, just because the video has a relatively modest view count on Youtube... But I was wrong.

Getting to the point

I can't listen to the song without getting all choked up and teary, because not only are the writing and performance amazing, but I can relate to the meaning so strongly.

A few years ago I had to break up with my girlfriend (thankfully we are still close friends) because we didn't feel the same way about kids. It was one of the hardest things I've had to do because we're so compatible in many other ways. She wants kids; I don't, because I feel like I can barely take care of myself and don't know if I could handle the responsibility of being a dad and raising kids. So I had to let her go to give her a chance to meet a great guy who also wants kids.

So yeah... this song hits me right in the heart. Maybe in another world, we would both feel the same way about kids. Thanks for reading if you got this far, just had to share with somebody.
