CarMax just “yeeted” my reservation into the void and pretended nothing happened
I reserved a vehicle at CarMax about a month ago. Everything was documented: reservation confirmed, conversation with the associate, notes in the system. The reason it's been held up for so long is because it's failed inspection a third time since test driving, but I was told all of this would be done right for me.
Then the car just suddenly shows as, "Available" a day ago. I got lucky that I re-reserved it immediately, which means it wasn’t sold or pending. I didn’t even know my reservation dropped until the next day. I was casually checking other cars and boom my supposedly “reserved” vehicle is suddenly back on every third‑party site like nothing ever happened. That’s how I found out the system let it go.
So now I’m trying to understand:
Is this a known CarMax system glitch?
Do reservations auto‑expire when the vehicle status updates?
Does service/inspection completion trigger a release?
Does anyone with CarMax experience know what causes this?
