a few hours ago i opened up my youtube feed to find a video named "The Truth About Living Alone Revealed"
naturally, the combination of the title and thumbnail with the massive video length got me really curious, so i decided to take a look at the video.
i was quite surprised when the first thing i saw was a family guy funny moment, but you can imagine i was even more confused once i noticed the almost 2 day long video was entirely comprised of family guy funny moments.
as you can see, many other people were also similarly surprised
i checked out the channel out of curiosity, and found that they had uploaded multiple videos with similar titles, thumbnails, and lenghts, and all of them end up being family guy funnies as well.
now, the mystery is not "why are these videos like that?" because if all this was was just some family guy funnies with odd titles, i'd probably just be breaking rule 11. besides, this one commenter summed it up quite well:
i kept scrolling thru the channel's videos, and saw that before they posted these family guy videos, they were posting these vlogs (likely archived livestreams) of their daily life, going to the street market and cooking up some food
however, things got weird when i scrolled once more and discovered that the channel's oldest videos were quite old, and they didn't start posting the vlogs until very recently
i took a look at these old videos: the first one was a slideshow of this guy's time at some sorta navy school (alongside some odd photoshops), and the rest were just him playing with his baby.
considering the long gap between uploads and the sudden change in nationality, it's safe to say that the guy who was in that navy school and has the baby, and the guy posting the vlogs (and the family guy funnies) are not the same guy.
now, i'm not the first one to notice this, as many comments have also taken note of this
again, this is not where the story ends. the real mystery is coming up next:
this channel has some playlists of family guy funnies pinned up on the channel page. these videos are more implicitly family guy related, but are still very long.
you might notice that these videos are uploaded by many different channels. i went through these different channels out of curiosity, and very quickly discovered a pattern:
- channel was made in the 2000s
- went inactive until recently when they started posting random vlogs
- 3 months later they pivot to family guy funny moments
one such example is this channel:
their first video is a slideshow of this guy and his pals at school, almost two decades later they started posting french gaming videos with weird titles, and after a 3 month hiatus, they pivot to family guy.
i'm not gonna show every channel i've found this happen to, because i'd just be wasting time saying the same thing over and over; but even then, there's some variation to this formula from channel to channel:
- most of the time there are no old videos (the only proof these channels were even active back then is that their channel icon is a thumbnail from a seemingly deleted video)
- sometimes they just jump straight to family guy without the vlogs
- sometimes there's only a single vlog before the pivot
how do they hack into these channels? what's with the vlogs? why do all the hackings follow the exact same pattern? is this some sorta underground network of family guy freebooting hackers? what?
