For those who think half decent sunglasses should be $50 or less...

There was another post that referenced the Enemy sunglasses line by AlphaM on YT, so I looked up what happened to that, as I haven't heard anything about it in years. Turns out, it's gone.

https://alpham.com/aaron-marino-failed-with-enemy-sunglasses/

He initially started with a price point of $150, and to his credit, got Zeiss lenses and some sort of half-decent acetate, not cheap plastic like $30 amazon pairs (I have no personal experience with them and don't actually know the overall quality). He then lowered prices when he realized it was too high for his viewers (or more likely, he realized that $150 was getting too close to Ray-Ban and his viewers would just go for that, all else equal).

But he couldn't make enough money at that price, unless he got massive scale. But even with millions of subscribers, he couldn't get there.

It tells you something about how difficult it is to actually make a decent product at scale, and make worthwhile money doing it.

How many mistakes can you count in this video?

This video is actually not as bad as most sunglass overview videos, but I still counted over 30 mistakes, including from the founder of LensCrafters. How many can you count?

Sky Optics Amber Polar Lens Review

Here is my review on the new Sky Optics Amber Polar Lens. The short of it is that it is almost the same as the Serengeti Drivers in nearly all respects, a wonderful photochromic rose-brown. It comes in titanium aviator and navigator styles that are some of the lightest sunglasses with glass lenses I have ever worn.

You can check out Sky Optics here.

I would really appreciate any feedback about the facts in the review, anything I may have gotten wrong, any details or information I may have missed etc. Let me know if you like the layout and structure as well. Please help me improve. Any and all feedback is most welcome.

Here is my review on the Smith ChromaPop Glass Opal Lens. The short of it is that it is a very pleasant rose-brown with a unique mirror that works well year-round. I'm on the fence about whether it's a Tier 1 or 2 lens, but it's borderline.

Here is my review on the new Serengeti Onyx lens. The short of it is that this replaces the Smoke lens that was sort of redundant next to the 555nm lens, and fills a hole in Serengeti's lens lineup for a dark, bright conditions option. It is a dark grey polarized lens with a subtle mirror, it won't blow you away like the other Serengeti lenses but it does its intended job very well. This was made for people who live in very bright places who have avoided Serengeti until now.

Sky Optics, which is the new house brand of Flight Sunglasses, has just come out with a new navigator (called "Pilot") and an aviator (called "Classic").

They do a lot of work with Serengeti, Randolph, and Maui Jim, and it seems these are the result of taking the best of all three.

The frame designs are reminiscent of Randolph, with bayonet temples. They aren't the exact same, there are noticeable differences, but the styles are there. Unlike Randolph, the frame material is titanium, which Maui Jim uses for a lot of aviators.

The lenses are not far from Serengeti. Glass, fully coated, mildly photochromic. There are differences in the lenses to Serengeti, but not far off.

I have not tried either of these frames yet, but I will soon hopefully. They sent me the lenses to review (and then ship back to them) and I will post a review soon. I have tried the Foil and Aerowire, which are more wrap aviators that pilots like. They might be the lightest glass sunglasses I have ever worn.

Titanium frames with these classic designs and top-quality lenses is a solid offering. Curious what other people will say when the reviews start coming in.

I don’t know any internal numbers for the brand, and they are in the process of being sold, but it seems we may have cleaned them out of their main styles.

The Delio, Carrara, Wayne, and Spello are almost entirely sold out. Almost all other models that have Drivers lenses are sold out. Even the new Navigator is sold out of the Drivers already, and it’s been two weeks. This wasn’t the case a few months ago before we got the sub discount.

They told me there should be a restock of top models soon, within days or weeks.

Great job guys. Word of mouth is real.
