Sorry for format, I’m on mobile. I’ve been wanting to leave my job for the last 7 months. The toll it’s taken on me has been immense, sleepless nights, extreme pressure, fatigue, burn out, a not so good management. After 13 years of nursing, it took only 7 months to burn me out and make me think about quitting nursing altogether and working at a coffee shop. I’ve done admin duties that could be done by a receptionist, payroll, allocations, liaising with multidisciplinary teams constantly, always putting out fires, managing a department, watched staff turnover and retention climb. I know I signed up for it when I took this higher up job but the day has finally come. I’ve decided to look after myself before a company that would have my job ad posted the day after I die (this actually happened, but it took 3 days for them to post it). Tuesday I’m resigning and waiting out 4 weeks of a shitty roster to start a new job. I want to say, there is light at the end of the tunnel. If you’re unhappy and can see that the type of nursing/where you work is doing you no good, change directions!! I can’t wait to see what this new job brings. I hope all nurses are able to feel peace in their careers, we deserve it.
