Hey! This is actually my very first Reddit post so bear my long post 🙏
So, a while back, I did the German language placement test (official online one provided by UniMelb for diff languages) and I’m eligible for German 3 (GERM10001 L1 Sem 1 and also GERM20004 L2 Sem 1) and German 4 (GERM10002 L1 Sem 2 and also GERM20005 L2 Sem 2).
Previously, I’ve studied German individually and formally (through middle & high school) such that my CEFR* level reached B2. I managed to clear the Goethe Institut Certifikat exams as well. However, I haven’t touched the language for the last yearish so I’m willing to relearn the B1 content. So, I was wondering whether: do the UniMelb language options teach someone the language such that they are in a position to increase their CERF level?
I’m not exactly able to phrase my question well but I basically mean: if someone has experience w either of these classes, could you give me an idea of how they’re taught (is there a focus on grammar, reading comprehension, speaking sessions etc like how they’re taught in high school)? Also, might be a bit much to ask but do you think doing these classes would prepare me for further studying German and taking higher-level certificate exams in case I ever wanna go and work/study in a German-speaking country?
Thanks! I’d really appreciate the help cause I tried emailing the language testing centre but haven’t gotten a response yet.
*For ref, CEFR levels are used to determine language proficiencies and they go like this: A1/A2 (Beginner), B1/B2 (Intermediate), and C1/C2 (Proficient)
