Marketplace requiring ID to resolve "unusual activity"
Wanted to flag this for the group so this information is out there. I've had a Facebook account since 2006. I post things on Marketplace daily and it's been a valuable tool for making some money. I posted an item over the weekend, and the only thing I did differently was accidently use the "MetaAI" for writing the ad. Once the ad posts, I get a notification that due to unusual activity, Meta must verify my identity. It wants a picture of a drivers license or passport.
I set up a call with Meta and the customer service rep confirmed there was no unusual activity and this will be rolled out for everyone.
... so then this notification is a lie? "No, sir. You need to verify your identity due to unusual activity on your account." Uh, you just said there was none. "It's to prevent fraud."
I asked why doesn't Meta just state the actual reason instead of claiming it's for unusual activity. "It's rolling out for everyone." Guy could stick to a script.
I asked what will happen to this photo of my DL or passport and he said it'll go to the team to verify my identity. I asked if they delete it after or will it be stored. He said it'll be likely stored with my data. (GREAT!) "But don't worry, Meta will protect your personal information."
What about hacks or leaks. Those always happen. "That will not happen at Meta."
LOL.
Anyhow, I'm getting ready to submit my expired passport that doesn't look like me with a certain finger cover up most of the personal information. Will let you all know if it actually goes through.
