Here I thought my washer didn’t have built up detergent residue. I was wrong….
This is at the hottest setting, longest wash, with 1/2 cup of citric acid. First round.

Edit: I bought my citric acid through Amazon but going forward I’m going to buy it through Wholesale Supplies Plus. Citric acid is the main ingredient in bath bombs and WSP is a reputable source. I have bought from them many times when I was making handmade soap, lip balm, etc :)

Edit edit: after the second round, black/brown flakes began appearing in the water. Yuck!

Hi everyone, I have learned so much from this channel and want to pay it forward (I think this counts). I have hard water, about 240ppm, and this is how I do my laundry now:

Directly into the empty tub:
3 tbsp sodium citrate (acts as a water softener)
1/4 cup Ariel powder detergent (contains lipase)
3 tbsp oxiclean stain remover

In the fabric softener dispenser:
1/4 cup Downy rinse & refresh or 2 tbsp citric acid dissolved in 1/4 of water

I have included images of each step and at the end you can see the trace suds that formed. This works for me and I hope it helps someone else as well!:)
