I live in a European metropolitan city, one known for its public transport. The type where, during rush hour, you wouldn’t need to wait more than three minutes for a bus or tram. Standing close enough to the driver, I notice that without fail, each and every time, the driver will wave to oncoming bus drivers.
Curious, on the main road where many bus routes intersect, I counted this specific driver waving five times between one bus stop and the next, which are approximately 200–300 meters apart. His hand was almost waving as much as it was steering.
I can appreciate the politeness between colleagues (many of whom I imagine the driver has never met), but isn’t it tiring to be waving every single day, every time you pass another bus?
