Reducing stem length

Hi,

Im looking to replace my stem with a shorter length stem shortly.

I got back into cycling a couple years ago, having not ridden a bike since I was a kid and technology has drastically changed (internal cable routing).

My question is, would a shorter stem just be a direct replacement, or am I in for a world of issues with the cables where they are and the specific length of them?

Many Thanks in advance.

Hi :)

I had my local shop fitted new discs, pads and bleed the brakes about a month ago and all was perfect.

The last couple of rides, Ive heard a creaking? (For lack of better words). I traced it to the front disc rubbing/ catching.

I followed a YouTube video telling me to adjust the calipers (didn't work) and then push the pistons back, which worked for the noise, but has made my (front) lever super spongy and I have to effectively pull the lever to the bar to stop.

Any advice on how to rectify this is much appreciated. Ive searched online and can't get an answer.

Edit: It's an Orbea Orca 2022 with Shimano Tiagra Components.
