Hey all, I'm a synth newbie and total beginner to making music. I work at a computer all day and recently found that I love jamming and making beats (melodic techno, hiphop, DNB, acid, that kind of stuff). I have Ableton live and recorded some things before, but for now I find that I enjoy using the hardware much more than my laptop.

Currently I have:

  • Roland S1
  • Volcas: Bass, Beats, Keys
  • Drumbrute Impact
  • Zoom L6 Mixer
  • + I'm about the order a multi-effects pedal (Zoom or G-5)

Note: I don't really have a lot of space, and thus I prefer smaller/compact devices..I do plan to get a "proper" synth and bass sometime in the future though.

For now, I realize that should probably get a Sequencer and/or a Midi Keyboard?

This seems like a difficult task since there is so much choice.. I am kind of drawn towards the Keystep Pro, even though it might be a bit big for my desk. But it just seems like a logical choice for a beginner like me since it also the midi keyboard included. What do you think?

I guess that I could also get a used MPC or a digitakt plus an additional keyboard, but since i don't really know much about how these work it might be a bit of an overkill? I also really love the looks of the Oxi One , but tbh not sure if i want to spend that much where a used Keystep Pro would be 1/4th the price. Are there any other choices that I'm missing? What would you do?
