Is Cashew expense tracker app still open source?
I use Cashew as my expense tracker, partly because I believed it was open source. After a recent Play Store update, I checked the website and GitHub repo out of curiosity.
And I noticed that the Play Store version is 6.4.5, updated around May 2026 but the GitHub latest release/tag is 5.3.4 from July 2024 (almost 2 years ago).
I’m not accusing the developer of anything. Maybe the source push is delayed, maybe 6.x is developed in a private branch, or maybe I’m missing something. But I installed the app because I thought the cashew app was open source, and the Play Store version now seems far ahead of the public source.
For an expense/finance app, this feels important from a trust and auditability point of view. Does anyone know whether the current Cashew Play Store build is still open source? Has the developer explained this anywhere?
