Is there a difference between "update", "pacman -Syu" and the updater in CachyOS?

Basicly the title.

I do my updates by simply typing "update" into Fish, and that works for me just fine. But on my recent installation with the april-image of CachyOS, the updater is doing some stuff I've never seen before, like removing stuff.

I'm just curious if there are any differences between the update-methods and whats the best way to update the system.

Honestly, I didn't think it would go this well.

The start was a little bit overwhelming, it was a lot to do, and even more to learn about this OS and Linux, but in the end, I figured everything out I wanted.

I have a lowlatency audiorouting with under 10ms combined in- and output (128 samples), a working legacy MIDI controller after compiling a mac-driver for Cachy, LSP plugins in my audio-chain for my microphone and discord-communication, working games with FSR4 on RDNA3, and last but not least, a fully customized desktop to my needs.

I frickin love pipewire, qpwgraph, and jack_mixer. It's my VoiceMeeter Banana replacement I've been used to, back on Windows. It's maybe not that comfy as VoiceMeeter, but it's a valid replacement. The MIDI controller allows me to control the volume of each channelstrip and mute the mains for speakers (1/2) and headphones (3/4) - and EasyEffects is a bonus with imported EQ for my Sennheiser HD25-1 II.

There are some small downsides too:

The first one is the powerconsumption of my rig. While in total idle, the system draws about 25 watts more, and since I'm not that familiar with Linux (and don't want to brick my OS into oblivion), I'm not sure how to manage this, but it's a small price I'm willing to pay for now.

The second one is Dolphin. I don't know how to explain this, but it feels different. I can't get used to the look & feel, it's the same for every folder, not unique for everyone like back on Windows. And I'm still not used to how the search-function is working

Then theres SMB ... I transfer the files from my phone by TotalCommander over SMB to my rig, and after figuring out, that it's better to use static IP instead of .local for this task, it still takes way longer to connect to the rig. It's not as fast connecting as I'm used to.

Anyways, even if so, I'm satisfied. It's my daily driver for more than three months now and everything is working. I don't tinker much with the system, no fancy UI, don't want to break or brick it, using what's there, adding what's necessary, and simply enjoying beeing free of the bloated mainstream-alternative. It's running now on every of my three PCs, and this won't change so soon.

Your questions are very welcome, don't hesitate to ask when you're curious about something.

TL;DR

Was it easy:
No. It took a lot of time figuring it out (almost) by myself.

Do I recommend CachyOS for everyone:
No. When you have exotic hardware, it can be a real pain in the butt to get everything working for you.

Would I install it on my Mums/Dads/Aunties PC:
Yes! 😸

Hi.

The Package Power of my 5800X3D is reported by intel-rapl only correctly in Zenmonitor3. It's the total power my CPU is using and the only value I need.

When I try to export this value to OCCT, XSensors or Systemmonitor, it won't show up.

Gemini was a good help so far, but I think, some steps are missing.

Do you guys have any idea?
