best steps to keep myself safe?
so i’m moving into the basement of my uncle’s home next month to take care of family (rent free). the only issue is, this unit is supposed to be demo’d and renovated due to building code issues (low ceiling height, fire safety, some mold issues, etc…) within the next two years ish.
i’ll be here for a few months to a year and the mold/mildew is my biggest concern. i attached a picture of the worst corner.
how do i keep my lungs and brain healthy while living here? moving is not an option so im looking for a harm reduction approach. my current plan for the unit is:
- clean the visible spots with bleach
(yes i know it won’t kill it but maybe it will retreat a bit..)
- paint over it with zinsser mold killing primer
- paint over it again with more paint (suggestions?)
- buy a very good quality air purifier for every room (looking at shark breatheclear but open to other suggestions)
- ventilate and have windows open constantly
the bedroom doesn’t have any windows and isn’t super well ventilated so im going to get an air purifier in there and a dehumidifier. i’m wonder if there anything else i could do. there’s an outdoor space so ill be making that area nice so i can spend less time indoors as well.
i’ll desperate for any suggestions to reduce damage to my health
EDIT: i’m in a coastal san francisco city, haven’t taken any steps yet since i havent moved in, and it looks like the mold is only on the walls. nothing fuzzy or mushroom poking out, just discoloration of the walls and a smell
