Not sure which subreddit to post this in, figured people here might know what i'm talking about

Soo i have been getting in touch with my spiritual side. Realising and learning things about mother earth, human nature and the universe. An international friend of my brother (they worked together in my country) had to stay at our house this weekend, because of problems at work. My brother is on vacation so he is not here.

She grew up in a culture where indigenous rituals and beliefs are still very important, and practised to this day. Talking to her i really felt like i needed to meet her. Her views on the world and life are beautiful and i can find myself in a lot of things we discussed.

She grows mushrooms and has her own little 'natural medicine shop.' This weekend, she carried a spray with her, from her own shop and the name of the spray translates to 'the seven portals,' which obviously has something to do with meditation and chakras. I don't know much about this stuff so i'll let myself get educated here if needed.

The spray is used on your hands. You are supposed to rub it in, and then inhale a few times. It is supposed to open up airways for meditating. She gave me this spray and when i asked her what's in it, she told me it's herbs and rum. The rum smell is extremely strong, and after inhaling it i felt a little dizzy and my airways opened up but it kind of hurt in the back of my nose.

I know it's pretty foolish of me to just inhale something randomly without trying to find out what exactly it is first, but that's pretty much who i am and also not the reason why i came here so i don't need anybody telling me that i did something stupid.

I just want to know if this inhaling of rum is a common spiritual practise, if anybody heard about something like this before and/or if it is dangerous!

Ps: it's the best smell ever, might become my new perfume. Also stays on more than one day, i can still smell it on my hands the next morning

What happens to me as soon as i get to the other side?

Sometimes, when my body falls asleep i'm still awake. This has been happening since i was a child, and i find the sensation too interesting to start panicking, so i breathe through it. Also after all these years i know that this is happening so i guess im kinda used to the feeling and i know what to do.

It's the sensation of falling asleep while consious, and sometimes weird things happen. I start seeing ugly morphed faces while falling, hearing the most terrifying screams and as i breathe more and more the screams get louder and the faces get more terrifying. When it gets too bad i can wake myself up by trying to move my head to the side. It takes a lot of energy because at first i can't move for a few seconds. But it always works and thats how i know i have a way out. But i have never made it through to actual sleep, and i feel like if i keep breathing through it till im asleep, i'll end up in a lucid dream. I just have a feeling, idk. But the faces still terrify me too much to keep going. Or sometimes people will call my name and say things like 'this is the end' in the most horrific voice you can think of. It's surreal.

Does anyone recognise what is happening here, has anyone ever breathed through all this to find out whats on the other side, or does anyone have advice for me? I want to know what happens
