Career change coal to oil?
Have been thinking about a career change for something a bit more challenging and more fulfilment but am also nervous or worried it’s a dumb move to do. I currently work fifo in a coal mine, 7/7 roster, multi skilled and am on a clear pathway to keep moving up which I thought I’ve wanted for as long as I’ve been doing this. Lately I feel I’ve been losing the spark and drive I once had to keep progressing and don’t want to end up just becoming a brain dead operator.
I’ve always thought about working in the oil industry and it’s always interested me and I’ve started to see a few entry level lease hand positions around but I’m stuck. I don’t know if it’s dumb to jump across now and lose the opportunities I have coming or just scratch the itch I have. I think I have some sort of undiagnosed adhd or am just really ambitious and constantly need to be challenging myself and learning. The manual labour side of it doesn’t worry me as I have a trade in the construction industry as well but it would be a pay cut initially I assume, harder work/harder on the body, different roster 2:2 and dido.
Kind of just wondering if anyone else had made mthe jump or what you would do in my position?
