Advice on good upgrades for a new player?
I picked up AOE2 for the first time (since playing aoe3 20 years ago) this week, although I have a lot of RTS experience from SC2, and I'm currently hovering around 800 elo in 1v1 after 40 or so games. It's a lot of fun but one of the differences I'm struggling with is the sheer number of upgrades on certain buildings. Right now what I do is basically:
- get upgraded/elite versions of units
- try to get blacksmith upgrades for units I'm making
- get the eco upgrades (though I often forget)
- get ballistics and maybe chemistry
But I there are a lot of other upgrades in the university plus scattered across various buildings. I know some of them are completely useless since I only play 1v1 on land, but there are some (conscription?) that seem good but I've never actually thought to get in a game. Does anyone have any advice/suggested resources to get a sense of a) what upgrades are worth getting as soon as possible and b) what upgrades are at least good enough to not be a waste of resources (i.e. could reasonably get researched in a pro 1v1 game). And again I'm only interested in the case of 1v1 ranked RM.
