I want to train for a sprint triathlon and I’m really doubting whether I should join a triathlon club or just training on my own.

On one hand, I feel like a club could really help me improve, stay consistent, and actually enjoy the process more. On the other hand… I’m honestly really self-conscious about my body. I’m overweight and quite slow at the moment, and I’m scared of being “the slow fat girl” at the back of the group. The idea of people judging me (even if they probably won’t) makes me want to just avoid it altogether.

So I guess my question is:
Has anyone here joined a triathlon (or any sports) club while being overweight or a beginner? How was your experience? Did it feel intimidating, or was it actually supportive?

And would you recommend joining anyway, or building up fitness alone first?
