Hey everyone,

I am making a post on here because I want more information than what just google and AI says. I am currently a HS junior in America and want to go to college in the Netherlands. I am not interested in the stereotypical American "college experience," and really want to get out of the United States. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, have a 3.82 unweighted GPA, and by the time I graduate, I will have taken 5 AP tests. I also just took the SAT & am waiting to get my score back. Although, I am not sure how important these stats are here. I am navigating applying to college all on my own, and I am pretty lost/do not know where to start (google and AI are not helpful). I am thinking I want to major in biology or biochemistry. Some of the information I have researched says I can get a biology degree in English, whereas some other sources say that I can't. Is it possible to study here in English? I would also take Dutch classes so I can learn Dutch if I come here for university. If anyone has advice I would greatly appreciate it. I also do understand the housing crisis that is currently going on. I do have a family friend that has a house in Eindhoven that said I could live with them if I get accepted into university here. I just would like advice from actual people who live here. Also, I am not worried about commuting, as that is something I am already used to.

Side note: I am not an ignorant American, and do NOT support what my country is currently doing/involved in!!!!

Hey everyone,

I am making a post on here because I want more information than what just google and AI says. I am currently a HS junior in America and want to go to college in Europe. I am open to pretty much any country in the EU. I am navigating applying to college all on my own, and I am pretty lost/do not know where to start. I am thinking I want to major in biology, or biochemistry. If anyone has advice I would greatly appreciate it!

PS. I know America is highly hated right now and I do not stand with what the US is currently doing and I am not an ignorant American!!!

Hi everyone, I’m a current high school junior in the United States and I’m starting to seriously look into doing my undergraduate studies in Europe, ideally on a pre-med track. I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed about where/when to start, so I’d really appreciate any advice.

My academic background:

  • GPA: 3.82 unweighted / 4.0 weighted
  • Science I have taken: Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, biology, AP biology, and potentially AP Chemistry next year (Let me know if it would be helpful to take this class)
  • APs (taken/ planned): AP Psychology, AP Spanish Language & Culture, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Biology, and potentially AP Chem
  • Senior year schedule: Spanish (dual enrollment through a local university), Pre-Calculus, Physics, AP Biology, English, maybe AP chem, plus required graduation classes
  • Working toward a Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish
  • I just took my first SAT (May 2), waiting on scores

What I’m looking for:

  • I want to pursue a pre-med path (goal: becoming a doctor (not entirely sure yet, maybe a PA or cardiologist, but I do know that I am 100% committed to going into the medical field), likely practicing in the U.S. or possibly internationally)
  • I’m interested in studying in Europe—especially Netherlands, but I’m open to other countries as well
  • I would like to work part-time while studying if possible

Where I need advice:

  • I don’t really know where to apply, how applications work in Europe, or when I should start the process
  • I’m also not sure how “pre-med” works in Europe compared to the U.S.
  • I cannot afford expensive universities, so where would be cheap?
    • also cannot afford 20k+ US college tuition

My main questions:

  1. How realistic is it to go from a European undergraduate program to medical school (either in Europe or back in the U.S.)?
  2. Are there universities in Europe that offer strong science/pre-med pathways taught in English?
  3. How difficult is it to work part-time as an international student?
  4. Would my current academic profile be competitive for universities in Europe?
  5. What countries would you recommend for someone in my situation?
  6. What should I be doing right now as a junior to stay on track?

I’m open to any advice or personal experiences—especially if you’ve gone from Europe to medical school or are planning to. Thanks in advance!
