It's probably an unpopular opinion, because I'm always seeing exclusively positive comments under cover reveals of books I follow... but does anyone else avoid buying physical books with just animeish/cartonish (protagonist) covers? A cover does so much to set the whole atmosphere and scene. Its art.
I'm mostly collecting them as decoration and additional support, as I'm more of a digital reader and there have now been a few releases of physical books that while I really really enjoyed them as ebook, I just don't see myself buying and displaying them. They just don't fit with the vibe I'm going for when it comes to decorating. Maybe I'm not the target audience.
Is anyone else the same? I really can't tell whether they boost or hinder book sales.
I don't want to name "bad" ones, so I'm going with a positive example of the top of my head:
- I really love the art of the hundred reigns on RR. Its the overlord menacingly sitting on his throne. Totally different vibe, if it were in another style or with some anime protagonist https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/139212/the-hundred-reigns-timeloop-litrpg
- Chrysalis book 2 really gives the vibe away of what you can expect of the books https://www.amazon.com/Chrysalis-Upping-Ante-LitRPG-Adventure/dp/B0BCCX4N96
- The Wandering Inn (physical when!) has some really really great covers #1, #12, #13 in particular https://www.goodreads.com/series/265443-the-wandering-inn
- The Calamitous Bob tells the story really well through the covers https://www.goodreads.com/series/347131-the-calamitous-bob,
- Alex Gilbert also nailed it with A Journey of Black and Red where #5 is my favorite by far https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61340641-going-up-in-the-underworld.
- Dungeon Crawler Carl has that distinct style that just fits the story https://www.goodreads.com/series/309211-dungeon-crawler-carl
- The new He Who Fights With Monsters hardcover shows jasons cloak really nicely https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1638493456?
- Azarinth Healer Book 1 & 4 with those dragons... https://www.goodreads.com/series/358259-azarinth-healer
Very curious about other great covers!
