I have a 2001 3500 Chevy Express with a 5.7L V8 that I’ve renovated into a camper. On the last trip, it suddenly started to stall out at stops and had difficulty starting without starting fluid. Shortly after that, we lost engine power after about half throttle.
I think one possible problem is with the mass airflow sensor due to the heavy use of starter fluid post the initial breakdown. One time, it backfired and blew the plastics apart a bit, which we have since resealed. Not sure whether this would cause the problems we are seeing or not.
A mechanic we know suggested it could be the injector assembly and to replace the whole thing.
Whichever the case, I’m trying to not chase my tail around by throw money at parts we don’t have to replace.
Any advice or thoughts are welcomed
