VA Home Loan questions

Hello folks! Looking for your inputs here. I’m looking to possibly buy a home in my area using my VA home loan and I wanted to gauge the feasibility of the purchase.

The home downstairs is completely liveable (renovated MBr/MBa, 2 HBa, Kitchen, Garage) but the issues come in when the upstairs is considered. There is an unfinished addition with extremely dated/beaten up remaining living space, and possible older materials like lead paint. The exterior is in great condition with a relatively new roof, paint, fascia, windows, etc. however I don’t know if the aforementioned issues will be a complete roadblock toward my aspirations at this property.

I vaguely understand the VA guidelines for approval on a property and have considered asking to get a lockable door framed in that will completely separate the upstairs from the downstairs, as to guarantee a safe living area but I’m unsure if this would be a realistic (temporary for approval) fix to the problem until I can remodel myself or if I’d just be wasting my time?

Thanks!
