Hi! Wondering if anyone can help. Wifey's Juke has gone into limp mode merging onto the motorway. It's a 2018 with the 1.2 DIG-T lump and has 80k km/50k mi on the clock.

The check engine light came on, the auto start/stop light started flashing and the shift indicator lighted up both up and downshift lights. There weren't any obvious oil, coolant etc smells, but it smelled a bit on the rich side. Coolant temp was bang on the middle. If I'm not mistaken I did see a puff of smoke when it first cut off when checking the mirror for cars behind us. I didn't notice any further smoking or whatever. The engine didn't really rev past 2000rpm and wasn't happy past 20% throttle, sputtered heavily and cut power off until it was under light load or under 2000rpm. It had around half a tank of petrol when this happened.

We brought it back home, unfortunately my ELM clone recently stopped working so I had no way of pulling codes. I did however unplug the battery and plug it back on after a while, nothing change. I did however quickly check the voltage with the engine running just to check the alternator, it read ok at above 14v.

Oil level was a tad high and it did smell a fair bit of petrol, and it did sound a bit like backfiring when stationary on deceleration. I couldn't check the plugs as we were on a time crunch. It started just fine so I'm guessing it isn't valves or ringland as compression seems just fine. The engine sounds absolutely fine with no knocking or rattles.

It's been developing a slight hesitation at about 2000rpm but it's barely noticeable, but I'm leaving this here as it might be related.

I know it's hard to diagnose without codes, but I'd appreciate if it's happened to any of you or if you might have any leads. Thank you very much.

TIA
