Got a ticket for driving without a license because my DL is expired, but that's because I need my DACA renewal (which has also expired) to come through to renew my DL
Location: VA, but pulled over at MD.
Title hopefully gives enough context but I can answer anything else. I don't know what to expect. I will be mailed a mandatory court date within a couple weeks. The police officer said if I got my license renewed he'll drop the case but I highly doubt my DACA renewal will come in on time. I've been reading that the ones submitted last November are only now being approved. I'm not sure what to expect if I go to court with an expired DACA or license (which expired in March) and I get charged with this offense. I read it's a class 2 misdemeanor and I'm afraid and unsure how it'll impact my renewal process as well.
What happens if I am charged with this offense? Is there a chance that I could be taken in because I'm in between renewals and technically don't have anything?
What can I do to lessen this charge?
What should I do in the meantime?
