I built this pedalboard not too long ago and love the sounds I can get from it. The problem is that anytime I play on a clean or dirty amp channel, there’s an aggressive background static-hiss noise. I use a nano cortex as a pre amp, and when I use a noise gate after the pre amp, either in the 2 or 4 cable method, or even 2 noise gates (before and after the preamp), the static-hiss only is silenced when I’m not actively playing. As soon as I strike a note in any amp channel the noise comes raging out.

When I output the nano cortex into the fx return of an amp, instead of the output of the last pedal going into the fx return, all the noise is gone. So if I’m understanding this correctly I’ve ruled out the static-hiss coming from the guitar, digital preamp, isolated power supply, and the physical amp itself.

The question is, once I find which pedal specifically (or could be multiple pedals) is causing the static-hiss, how would I address this? The easy answer is exclude the pedal from the chain I guess. But what if you like the pedal and want to keep it? Is there any way to solve noise coming from a pedal while still keeping the pedal in the chain? Has anyone ever dealt with a problem like this? I appreciate any thoughts, thanks!
