Hey all,

This is my first job working as an MA. In my state, we do not require a certification however, it does help a ton finding a job as many places here are not willing to train on job (understandably). So, this is my first time working in a small, private practice medical office/med spa. So it’s just me and the doctor alone in the office most days.

I am well aware of the learning curve and eager to show up to work and learn. I want to be a PA someday—I still need to finish undergrad but hopefully I will get there!

I guess my question is, are all doctors neurotic? The doctor I work with is pretty anxious and stressed out all the time, which stresses me out. He kind of talks to me like i’m stupid and tells me i’m too slow for the “fast-paced” environment even though it’s not very fast-paced at all.

On top of that, i’m definitely getting underpaid for the workload. I know MAs do not make a ton of money to begin with but i’m also working front desk and doing admin work for $17 an hour so I feel like i’m being pulled in every direction with tasks the doctor will ask me to do. I know i’m smart and I get the hang of things pretty fast and try not to make the same mistake twice but it’s been hard working with someone who treats you otherwise.

I did not receive any formal training and I kind of had to figure everything out for myself which is why he probably thinks i’m slow. I finally got the hang of everything and the flow of the office which is nice but it took me almost 2 months to learn the basics

I’m feeling a little discouraged and thinking about putting in my 2 weeks, and maybe just sticking to my second job as a server for now.

Should I expect this for every doctor/clinic I work at in the future? How would you deal with this? Any info/advice is welcomed. Thank you!
