hey all. as the title says, i am an anime newbie. there is so much, so i would love some recommendations for what to watch. i'm not against subtitles but prefer English dubs to start. i would love recommendations for let's say, two films and a series that is relatively short.

i can sum up everything i have seen so far very quickly and chronologically.

films:

Princess Mononoke - watched circa 2001 or so. i loved this film and i can still remember many scenes shot for shot. amazing and deeply affecting.

Ninja Scroll - watched circa 2001 or so. i hated this film at the time and i think i would hate it more now. the scenes of sexual assault are gross and i feel like the animators took pleasure in them. don't recommend anything like this please.

Akira - watched circa 2010 or so. did not immediately love it on a heart level but it stayed with me, and i appreciated it. very bleak, very intense, very upsetting, definitely a worthwhile experience.

series:

Dragonball Z - watched this circa 1998-00 with my brother. Saiyan saga, Frieza saga, Cell saga. honestly loved it but the degree of filler and time killing was intolerable at times. but i still will never forget the highs.

Cowboy Bebop - watched around 2002. amazing series. lots of unforgettable episodes. really fell in love with the characters.

Trigun - watched this around 2004 with college roommate. i think i watched most of the series. def liked things about it but a lot of filler and too much silliness. dramatic moments were incredibly cool but the pacing was rough for me.

and that's it! that's all I've watched. there is so much more and i don't know where to start, so i would love some recs based on my criteria if anyone has the time. 2-3 films and a series that preferably doesn't go on for 100+ episodes.

thanks in advance!
