[TOMT] Pre-2015 indie move where a (Japanese?) brother & sister move to a small desert town
I’m looking for an indie movie that I watched around 2015, probably on Netflix. It was most likely released between 2008-2015.
Plot: A (possibly Japanese?) brother and sister move to a small town in the desert somewhere in the western U.S., probably California. It’s possible that they were heading to Los Angeles and just ended up in a random town along the way, but I’m not sure about that part. I think the sister ends up having a romantic relationship with a guy from the town. There might be a scene in the beginning with an abandoned house, but take that with a grain of salt. Other than that, I don’t remember much.
Characters: The main characters are late teens/early 20s. I believe the two main characters were Asian (maybe Asian-American) and pretty much everyone else was white.
Genre: Indie, coming of age. I remember the tone being pretty bleak and depressing.
Thanks for taking the time to read!
