Are these roots actually a problem or am I worrying over nothing?

Hey everyone, novice grower here looking for a sanity check more than anything.

These are two autoflowers on day 41 in DWC using Xpert Nutrients. Last Thursday, I changed the water and nutrients in both buckets, and at that time, the roots were bright white/silvery. Today, I checked them again and noticed the roots have turned more tan/brownish, and it has me a bit worried.

What’s throwing me off is that the roots don’t seem slimy at all, and there’s no bad smell coming from the buckets. The plants themselves also seem pretty healthy to me — leaves look good overall, and growth hasn’t noticeably slowed.

So now I’m trying to figure out if:

this root color is normal staining from nutrients, or

if I’m missing early signs of root rot because I’m inexperienced.

I included canopy and root pics for reference. Any opinions/advice would be appreciated because I honestly can’t tell if I’m spotting a real issue or just overthinking every little thing on my first grow 😅

Hey everyone, I’ve been lurking for a while and decided to finally post. I’m at week 4 with my autos and followed the Xpert Nutrients schedule, adding everything listed for this stage. It felt like a lot, but since I’m new and things were going well, I went with it.

Today I noticed both buckets were full of white foam. I panicked a bit, dumped some nutrient water, and diluted it with fresh water. The roots looked slightly dark and slimy at first, but after a gentle rinse they were still white, so root rot doesn’t seem to be an issue (for now).

For context, I calculated nutrient amounts based on bucket weight (~30 lbs of water converted to liters), so anything listed as 1 ml/L came out to ~10 ml total, and 2 ml/L to ~20 ml.

Setup:

  • Autos, 24h light
  • Temps: 75–77°F

Questions:

  1. Did I handle this correctly, or over/underreact?
  2. What should I do if the foam happens again?
  3. Am I misusing the nutrient schedule?
  4. Anything I’m overlooking or should change?

Appreciate any advice—still learning a lot.
